Ruth Rutherford is a highly regarded creative and multi- skilled designer based in rural Suffolk. Having gained her design degree and worked for many years in ceramic and glass design she has in recent years transposed her love of colour, form and nature into the world of textiles.
Since setting up The Arty Silkworm and working with fabrics, and in particular Pure Silk, she has developed an original style and technique that is unique to her, taking inspirational pattern values and colour combinations from the amazing natural botanical world. The results of which continue to sell in both the UK and Overseas.
In 2018, after much interest in her silk design work and many requests for teaching events, Ruth started the fabulous creative teaching workshops side of her business. They have been a great success in enabling her to inspire her students in the fundamental basics of her exciting style of creative silk painting. The student reviews on her website are a wonderful testimonial to her
passion and dedication.
When not creating her silk designs she spends her time restoring her 500 year old Suffolk farmhouse to its former glory, using her skills of creativity and individuality. She is also designing and planting a Tudor working kitchen garden, which as a novice gardener, is proving to be an exciting challenge.
She lives with her family and their dog, Twiggy.
Ruth is currently working on her latest exciting collections of Silk Scarves and Pocket Squares and in 2022 will be a guest tutor at Flatford Mill, In Suffolk.
